American Cult Beauty Products

Looking for some new products to try? We’ve compiled a versatile list of beauty products that fly off the shelf in The States.

1. Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette

The Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette contains all matte, creamy shades that work for every skin tone. It’s a favorite among the industry and contains three highlight shades and three contour shades. It’s even been regarded as “the best contour palette on the market.”

2. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

If you’re looking for a new concealer you have to try the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. This formula doesn’t crease, lasts all day, and blends beautifully. In the spirit of American products, the Kardashians have even stated that this has become a go-to product.

3. Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

An incredible formula that combats dry skin and tightness. Perfect for plane rides to keep skin plump and fresh.  This product is intended for all skin types and you can even feel your skin drinking in the moisture.

4. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

A bit of controversy on this one… some love it, some hate it. It can be purchased at any drugstore, so test it out and let us know your thoughts! This mascara delivers a thick, full lash without becoming flaky. Used by the average American and make up artist alike, the pink and green tube has become an industry icon.

5. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush  - Exposed

Considered a “magic” blush, this formula is made from Amazonian clay, which leads to intense pigment that stays on all day.  It sucks up grease if you have oily skin, yet hydrates dry skin. We don’t quite understand it ourselves, but this product works wonders.

The Master Guide to Matte Lipsticks

A more recent trend in the lip industry has been a crisp matte look. With so many options to choose from, we’ve developed a list of our favourites.

1. Kylie Jenner’s Liquid Matte Lipstick

They don’t call them “Kylie Jenner Lips” for nothing! Since the unveiling of her lip

kits (about €26 per kit), Kylie has launched an entire makeup line, but her lip kits have still remained the most popular. The reason? They stay on… for like, a really long time (be sure to wash it off at night or you’ll wake up with some bold lips). These formulas do tend to try out your lips, however, so make sure to exfoliate the day before use and don’t hesitate to apply a layer of lip balm if ~ultra matte~ isn’t your thing.

Our Favourite Shade: Candy K. Warm pinky nude perfect for everyday wear or a night out.

2. Mac Matte Lipstick

A cult favorite, the Mac Matte Lipstick for €20 comes in 56 shades and is the perfect alternative to those who don’t like liquid mattes. The lipstick goes on smooth and has been tested to make sure it stays on your lips and off the rim of your cup. This product has been a best seller for years, so it’s about time you got around to trying it.

Our Favourite Shade: Ruby Woo. The most vibrant cool toned red with blue undertones that is worn by celebrities on the red carpet.

3. Colourpop Ultra Matte

Colourpop Ultra Matte is an affordable liquid lipstick that has been used as a dupe to many high-end brands. With 33 shades to choose from, the formula is truly “ultra matte” as it goes on liquid and dries completely within seconds of application, so be sure to act fast. It can be drying, however, so consider applying some gloss or lip balm on top if it isn’t comfortable. These are super longwearing, so we’d say it’s worth it to try for the price of around €6.

Our Favourite Shade: Trap. A dusty greyed out beige that fits right on trend.

4. Urban Decay Cosmetics Vice Lipstick in Comfort Matte

For those who don’t enjoy the somewhat dry feeling a matte can give but still love the look, try out the Urban Decay Cosmetics Vice Lipstick in Comfort Matte (a new version of the Matte Revolution). This creamy formula won’t leave your lips dry, tight, or flaky, but still give the full-pigmented look of a matte. Seriously, your lips will look and feel amazing due to the nourishing ingredients such as avocado, aloe vera, and Vitamin C and Vitamin E. If you absolutely love Urban Decay products, check out the first standalone Irish boutique that just opened on Dublin’s Grafton Street.

Our Favourite Shade: Menace. Medium Fuchsia pink that gives an intense pop of color, perfect for when you want a bold look.

5. Buxom Big & Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick.jpg

5. Buxom Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick Matte

What’s gel-based? Gel-based lipsticks are typically lightweight and give very true color clarity. Less is truly more with these formulas! That’s why we love the Buxom Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick Matte for just €18. It goes on so smoothly, gives incredible color with one swipe, and leaves lips looking…well, big and sexy. This is a lipstick that can be worn running errands or for nights out. Who doesn’t love versatility?

Our Favourite Shade: Racy Reveal. Warm medium toned peachy pink that’s great for all skin tones.

Five Face Masks for fabulous skin

Face masks seem to be all the rage right now with hundreds of different types on the market all promising different results. To everything from brightening, pore cleansing, wrinkle reducing, etc., we’ve come up with a list (in no particular order) of some of the best available face masks ranging in affordability and use.

1. Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment

It’s no secret that clay is amazing for treating blemishes and skin, but there seems to be endless products to choose from. GlamGlow's Tinglexfoliate Treatment claims to shrink pores, exfoliate, and leave skin looking bright and radiant – and it does just that. The Tinglexfoliate formula was originally created to be a “professional facial in a jar” for the entertainment industry, and has a French sea clay base with chunks of green tea leaves and volcanic pumice. The product was later released to the general public and has earned the excitement it deserves. This product runs at €45 and truly tingles on your face, exfoliates as you wash it off, and minimizes pores. The skin can feel slightly more dry after use, so we recommend applying moisturizer or looking into a hydrating mask such as Glamglow Thirstymud hydrating Treatment.

2. Dr. Sebagh Deep Exfoliating Mask

We had to give notice to another exfoliating mask because this one is too good. The Deep Exfoliating Mask makes skin feel baby soft, prevents breakouts, and reduces the look of preexisting acne scars. The great thing about this product is that you’ll have smooth, radiant skin just after one use, but continue to see skin improvements if used weekly. Although pricey, we believe this is the perfect mask to splurge on for around €69.

3. Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Mask

If you’re looking to firm your skin and to improve elasticity for a youthful glow, then the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Mask may be the one for you. This mask hydrates, refreshes, and reduces the look of lines and wrinkles. It’s especially beneficial for those of us that aren’t getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep, as it wakes up skin and leaves an energetic plump look. You can find the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Mask for €66 here.

4. L’Occitane Divine Cream Mask

This is the most expensive mask we’re going to tell you about with a price tag of  €104, but the benefits you’ll receive are priceless! This mask does it all. It maintains youth, nourishes and hydrates, reduces wrinkles and dehydration lines, evens skin tone, and brightens skin. The wonderful thing about this mask is that it doubles as a moisturizer if you use just a thin layer, versus a think layer as a mask. For all of the benefits you’ll receive, plus the versatile use, we definitely recommend giving this mask a try.

5. L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Glow Mask

Affordability never goes out of style! The L'Oreal Paris Pure Clay Glow Mask costs only around €12 but can compete with the high-end brands. A blend of three pure clays and red algae, this mask’s usefulness increases with each use. It first smoothes and brightens, then minimizes pores and eliminates blemishes, and finally creates an even toned glow. Even though it is a clay mask, this formula actually hydrates the skin and is recommended for normal to dry skin.

The top Bridal Beauty tips You NEED to know.

The day has finally arrived. After months of planning and preparing, you’re all of a sudden waking up on one of the most important days of your life! To make sure your day goes smoothly and you stay looking your best, we recommend giving this post a read.

  1. The pre and post products are just as important as the main ones.

What we mean by this is, primer and setting spray are about to become your new best friends. For those who aren’t dedicated makeup users, you may not have invested in these products yet, or don’t quite know why you should. Primers ensure that your makeup goes on effortlessly and lasts longer, which is essential for your wedding day. Primers also smooth out wrinkles, fine lines, or large pores, promoting your most flawless skin for the big day. We recommend taking a look at Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - Radiance. On the other hand, setting sprays keep your makeup on for hours longer than the products normally would last, while keeping your face looking fresh. For a setting spray that will last you all night, we recommend Urban Decay 'All Nighter' setting spray.

  1. Two words… waterproof mascara.

This one might seem obvious because let’s be honest, you will probably shed a tear or have watery eyes at least once on your wedding day. This used to result in an absolute makeup disaster – until someone decided that we should still look pretty when we cry. For these reasons, it is vital that you use great mascara that will hold up during even the most emotional of days. Additionally, when those tears start to fall we suggest wiping the tears away by moving your finger up your lashes, instead of the common “sweeping to the side.” This way, mascara is less likely to clump up or become runny. If tissues are readily available, hold one at the sides of your eyes so tears will soak into the tissue, rather than hit your skin. For an industry favourite waterproof mascara, check out Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Mascara.

  1. Second-day hair will last longer.

As tempted as you may be to wash your hair the morning of your wedding, if you’re looking for a stronger hold and shiny locks then pop on a shower cap. For particularly thick hair, you can get away with washing it the day before. However if you’re worried about having greasy hair, then wash your hair the night before. When hair is too clean, it can become harder to style and static-y, so most stylists will recommend second-day hair to create a textured look that lasts throughout the reception and late into the night. It’s very important that if you’re getting your hair professionally styled to ask your stylist what they prefer prior to the session, however, because some styles may work better with a fresh wash.

  1. Over-packing can be a good thing.

Usually when you hear about over-packing it’s regarded as a mistake, but on your wedding day it’s best to have everything you need – and more. We suggest keeping a beauty bag of items for everything from spills to touch ups. In regards to makeup, be sure to have your favourite products (lipstick, concealer, lip gloss, mascara, etc.) on hand for easy upkeep while you’re dancing the night away. Other items you may need include breath mints (you will literally never be kissed more times than on your wedding day), deodorant, blotting paper, hand cream, hairbrush, nail polish, eyelash glue, nail glue, perfume, eye drops, tissues/cotton swabs, bobby pins, and hair spray. In regards to perfume, we recommend choosing a scent that is different than your everyday use so it can be saved for special occasions and reminiscing.

  1. Don’t try anything new, but you can overdo.

Trying a new product or look on your wedding day is a huge no-no. It’s best to make sure all of your products are right for your skin and you feel comfortable in your look. We recommend having a hair and makeup wedding trial a few months before the special day, so you can arrange for changes if need be. If you’d like to book a wedding trial with Glissed, you can get more information here. In regards to “overdoing,” keep in mind that cameras and flash can wash you out and decrease the intensity of your makeup, so don’t be afraid to put on another layer of lipstick (for long lasting beautiful lips try filling in your lips with Mac Pro Longwear Lip Pencil under your lipstick). It is for this reason that we recommend using more makeup than you would even for a big night out, while still staying true to yourself. After a makeup wedding trial (or if you’re more of a DIY person, after you test out a look for the big day), be sure to snap some photos to see how you photograph.

The ULTIMATE Top 10 Foundations

The foundation landscape is a tough one to navigate. It feels like there are new foundations coming out nearly every week promising to last 24 hours, reduce shine or make your skin radiate. Saying that, which ones are worth it? We have literally scoured the internet to find the ultimate foundations on the market. We gathered reviews from our direct circle, as well as every reliable source on the internet to work out the best foundations EVER for all skin types. There was a spreadsheet involved. We mean business!

1. Nars Sheer Glow

If you’re looking for a foundation that will give you great coverage without leaving skin looking cakey – look no further. Nars is notorious for great products and the Sheer Glow Foundation is no exception. Sheer Glow leaves skin looking luminous and dewy while packing in the antioxidants to make skin healthier, softer, and smoother. This foundation is especially great for those with dry skin because it hydrates and won’t cling to flakey patches. Not to mention it comes in 19 shades so you’ll be sure to find your perfect fit. You can purchase Nars Sheer Glow for €31 here.

 2. Estée Lauder Double Wear

Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation is one of the most long-lasting foundations available today. While once lasting 15 hours, this formula has been improved to last an entire 24 hours. For being as long-lasting as it is, this foundation feels lightweight and easy on your skin while staying on through heat and humidity (plus a bonus SPF10).  Double Wear foundation gives immense coverage and leaves you with a perfect complexion without clogging pores or drying out your skin. Lastly, this formula comes in 44 different shades and is oil-free and non-acnegenic – so we definitely recommend giving it a try. Estée Lauder Double Wear runs at €32.50 and can be purchased here. If you find you want a slightly lighter formula, check out the Double Wear Light.

 3. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

Charlotte Tilbury is definitely a magician because this foundation is truly “magic.” 5 years in the making, this formula can mask all blemishes while fighting dehydration and premature aging. That’s right, this formula will actually make you look younger and healthier by minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and pores. This foundation is loved by celebrities and make up artists alike, and goes on lightweight and smooth. With 15 shades to chose from, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation costs €40, which seems like a bargain considering its magical qualities.

 4. Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup

This lightweight matte formula with SPF15 blends easily and is ideal for oily skin types. It is made up of 5 water-free oils that melt into your skin and leave you feeling like you’re wearing no make up at all (perfect for those who don’t normally wear foundation). Regarded as an industry favourite, this foundation brightens skin and gives a natural glow. Maestro is also helpful for those on the go, as it has low surface tension giving the fastest and easiest application.  Giorgio Armani Maestro can be purchased for €40 in 9 different shades. If you’re loyal to Giorgio Armani and are looking for even more coverage, we’d like to give an honorable mention to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

5. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish

Another recognized long-lasting foundation! Bobbi Brown developed a formula that allows for buildable coverage depending on your level of need. Great for long days at work or nights out, this foundation stays on for up to 12 hours even if you’re prone to touching your face. This formula is regarded as a medium to full coverage, oil free formula perfect for normal to oily skin types. For everyday make up that leaves skin looking even and natural, be sure to try out the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish foundation for €41.

6. Chanel Perfection Lumière / Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet

These two foundations are very similar and both have perfection in the name, so we decided to touch on both. First, the Perfection Lumière has a matte finish and is regarded as generally long-lasting. With 23 shades, the Perfection Lumière ranks in as one of the most diverse in shades for Chanel. The formula is decently thick, so it is most beneficial if you’re looking for max coverage to control oil and blemishes.  For those looking for a more demi-matte finish, Chanel has released the Velvet edition (also long-lasting!). The Perfection Lumière Velvet is a bit more lightweight and leaves the skin looking very natural with sheer to medium coverage. In comparing prices, the Perfection Lumière is a bit more of a splurge running at €46 instead of the more affordable €34 for the Velvet. Depending on your needs, you’re sure to find perfection with Chanel.

7. Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Éclat

The Le Teint Touche Éclat is another slightly thicker foundation on this list of favourites, so it’s great for those days you’re feeling a bit tired or have a breakout. This formula will make you look like you’ve gotten 8 hours of beauty sleep no matter what. Although it is a thick formula, it feels lightweight and dries matte to your skin while providing luminosity and anti-aging techniques. The Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Éclat boosts a natural glow and hydration, leaving skin looking silky smooth no matter your age. Even though this is a matte foundation, it is great for dry skin because of it’s hydrating and soothing qualities that won’t emphasize dry patches. With 22 shades, it’s worth the €42 to reap the amazing benefits.

8. L’Oreal Infallible

If you’re looking for an affordable and effective foundation, the L’Oreal Infallible is one of the best. This formula combats oil, conceals imperfections, and is long-lasting. The Infallible is a cream-to-powder liquid foundation that goes on smooth and won’t go patchy. Ideal for oily skin, the matte finish looks natural and anything but cakey. It blends seamlessly into skin with a lightweight and breathable texture and is easy to find a near-perfect match for all skin tones. For less than €15, the Infallible becomes an essential for anyone looking for a cheap but successful formula.

9. Maybelline FIT Me!

Maybelline came out with an entire FIT Me! collection and let’s just say it has been extremely successful.  In regards to liquid foundation, you can chose from Matte+Poreless, Dewy+Smooth, or the original FIT Me! depending on your skin type. All of the foundations are very versatile and allow for different makeup looks. For those with normal to oily skin and enjoy a natural, seamless finish, the Matte+Poreless is for you. This formula features micro-powders to blur and minimize pores while regulating shine. On the other hand, if you have normal to dry skin and are looking for radiance and hydration, then the Dewy+Smooth is your go-to. Dewy+Smooth evens skin tone while leaving your face looking and feeling baby soft.  The original FIT Me! is a traditional foundation for all skin types that is lightweight and natural while still giving coverage. You truly can’t go wrong with the FIT Me! collection, especially when you can find the products for around €10.

10. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

For everyone not getting your allotted 8 hours of sleep and don’t want to face the consequences, use the creamy Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation as your secret weapon. With pick-me-up qualities that lift and illuminate tired skin, this formula provides light coverage with a dewy, hydrated finish without leaving skin looking oily. This foundation, like most others, can be easily applied with a general foundation brush or a beauty blender (available at Beauty Bay). When you see how this foundation lasts all day and smoothes over dry areas comfortably, it’ll be a shock that this product only costs about €10.

Get The Look: Oh Fitness! BTS and Product List

I had the pleasure of looking after the AMAZING Siobhán of Oh Fitness fame over the Bank Holiday.

Siobhán was shooting for her site and social media and needed to get her hair and makeup done on the Bank Holiday Monday. Needless to say, all of the salons were closed with the Bank Hol and she needed a booking first thing in the morning for her early shoot time at 10am.

On meeting Siobhan, I found her so warm and down to earth, really friendly and yes her body is amazing in real life!!

Siobhan wanted to go for something natural for the gym shoot. She didn't want to feel too caked up or have a night time look during the day.

Siobhan mentioned that she would like a 'dewy' look 😊

I started off by applying strobe cream to the skin for a natural glow.

Then, I applied MAC Match Master in no.6 with a Real Techniques brush from Boots and mixed it with a bit of MAC Studio Sculpt to give it a really balmy finish. I set the skin with loose powder applying really light to the t-zone.

As she wanted to go for setting natural I just wanted to keep the colours neutral.

First, I applied a MAC paint pot in Groundwork and used the mid tone Brown in the Kylie Jenner Burgundy palette just in the crease for a little definition. Next, I used the Charlotte Tilbury Rock n Kohl brown pencil and smudged it along the lash line. I also used the liquid liner from the Mariah collection by MAC very close to the lash line for extra definition. A simple blended liner but not winged. I added a touch of highlighter to the tear duct of the eye and the brow bone. I used powder but you can use liquid if you prefer .

I used cream blush in Ladyblush by MAC.

Subculture and Doe lipstick by MAC.

Big and bouncy!

Sarah used the wand to curl the hair first, then combed in through using a paddle brush. Sarah set the hair using Moroccan oil hair spray, which doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky! Perfect for creating soft hold throughout the hair.

Overall we had a fantastic day and it was SO lovely to work with Siobhán and the rest of the team. We can't wait to see the final shots and will be sure to share!

Any other questions on the looks let us know!
